Synopsis

Produced by Lion Television, Inside The Tower of London once again takes viewers behind the scenes of this historic fortress — once a royal palace, prison, and armory, now one of Britain’s top tourist attractions.
Series 8 begins in June 2024, as Tower staff prepare for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Deputy Governor Debbie Whittingham organizes a remembrance service on Chapel Green, featuring a lone bagpiper playing the same tune heard on the Normandy beaches in 1944.
Yeoman Warder Paul Cunliffe reflects on his father’s war service, connecting the Tower’s past to modern remembrance. Chief Historian Tracy Borman explores the story of Sir Walter Raleigh, one of the Tower’s most famous prisoners.
As the event ends, Debbie Whittingham prepares for her retirement after seven years as the Tower’s first female Deputy Governor. Her farewell at the Constable’s Reception marks a touching end to her long career within the Tower’s walls.
