Rumors of The X-Files returning continue to circulate years after the iconic sci-fi series wrapped its 11-season run in 2018. Now, series star David Duchovny has weighed in on the chances of a reunion, offering fans a candid mix of realism and optimism.
In a recent interview with Parade about his latest book, About Time: Poems, Duchovny confirmed that no revival is currently in development.
“I’ve got nothing. I’d be the first to tell you if I had anything, but I don’t,” the Golden Globe Award winner said, disappointing long-time fans.
Still, the 65-year-old actor emphasized that he remains open to reprising his role as FBI agent Fox Mulder provided the project comes together under the right conditions.
I have nothing against the show. I always love the show, and I love working with the people who made the show. So, I wouldn’t say no [to doing a reunion], but it just has to work for everybody at the right time. And obviously, we’re running out of time. [We’re not getting] any younger. But, yeah, I mean, I love that world.
Duchovny explained.
The X-Files first premiered in 1993, running for nine seasons before ending in 2002. The franchise made a surprise return in 2016 with a tenth season and concluded in 2018 after its eleventh. Over the decades, the series has cemented its place in television history, spawning two feature films and multiple spin-off projects.
Currently, 20th Century Studios has not issued an official statement regarding a potential revival.
