Taylor Swift is a fan of Prime Video’s The Girlfriend, and she’s not the only one. The show has now reached over 25 million viewers on the streaming platform, Deadline has revealed.
The psychological thriller is based on Michelle Frances’ novel of the same name and stars Robin Wright, Olivia Cooke, and Laurie Davidson. It premiered on Prime Video on September 10, launching across the streamer’s global platform.
Deadline has seen the viewing numbers, and along with passing 25 million individual viewers worldwide, the drama has quickly become the number-one new scripted series on Prime Video in the UK. Superstar Taylor Swift mentioned the series on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week, which could help its viewership, though it was already performing strongly. Globally, it now ranks among the top ten Prime Video series released this year.
Per the synopsis, the six-part limited series follows Laura (Wright), a woman who seems to have everything: a great career, a loving husband, and her beloved son, Daniel (Davidson). Her perfect life starts to fall apart when Daniel brings home Cherry (Cooke), a girlfriend who changes everything. After a tense first meeting, Laura becomes convinced Cherry is hiding something. Is she a social climber, or is Laura just imagining it? As 25 million-plus viewers have found out, the truth depends on perspective in the show.

Wright shared a first clip from the series when she was honored at the Monte Carlo TV Festival in June. The Girlfriend was adapted by Naomi Sheldon and Gabbie Asher and produced by Imaginarium Productions and Amazon MGM Studios. Jonathan Cavendish and Caroline Norris are producers, while Wright, Will Tennant, Phil Robertson, John Zois, Dave Clarke, Asher, and Michelle Frances are executive producers.
Prime Video doesn’t usually share viewing numbers, but Deadline has previously reported on the global success of The Culpables franchise, another of its international hits.
