Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess Daly has finally addressed speculation about her and husband Vernon Kay being approached to join The Celebrity Traitors, hosted by her long-time friend and co-star Claudia Winkleman.
Rumours began circulating last year that the couple were in talks to take part in the BBC’s star-studded version of the hit psychological game show. The gossip intensified after Vernon joked on Good Morning Britain:
“It keeps cropping up, this. We haven’t been approached – or have we? We’re not doing it – or are we? So, we’ll see.”
He also teased that Tess wouldn’t be able to pull off the role of a traitor, adding:
“Tess always laughs when she tells a fib, whereas I’m terrible. It’s not convincing. I think it would be an interesting psychological experience, The Traitors.”
Now, Tess has clarified the situation, confirming in an interview with The Metro that Claudia never tried to recruit them for the show.
“She knows I’d be able to read her mind at this point,” Tess explained, admitting she wouldn’t make a convincing traitor. “I’d be terrible at doing a poker face and being a traitor.”
The Strictly host also reflected on her close friendship with Claudia, with whom she has shared the ballroom stage for more than a decade.

“Claudia makes me belly laugh. Sometimes she makes me laugh until my mascara is running down my face. It’s good for the soul. I think it adds at least a year to your life.”
While Tess and Vernon have ruled out taking part in the current series, the success of the celebrity spin-off could open doors for future seasons.
According to The Sun, a second series is already being discussed:
“The Celebrity Traitors is landing at the very peak of the format’s popularity. It’s the biggest show on the box, globally, and the cast is exceptional.”
The source added that although an official recommission depends on the show’s performance, it is “all but a done deal.”
The Celebrity Traitors continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
