Adam Sandler quietly honored his former onscreen son, Cameron Boyce, in Happy Gilmore 2.
Boyce passed away in 2019 at age 20 “in his sleep due to a seizure caused by an ongoing medical condition,” according to a family spokesperson. He was best known for his roles in Descendants, Jessie, and Mrs. Fletcher.

Disney fans quickly noticed the tribute to Boyce in the Happy Gilmore sequel and shared emotional reactions online. Early in the movie, right after Sandler’s character walks up to a golf check-in booth, the scene switches to two people behind the counter watching a show on a small TV. That’s when fans get a brief glimpse of Boyce on the screen, appearing in an episode of his Disney Channel show Jessie, where he played Luke Ross from 2011 to 2015.
Excuse me while I sob. It’s 10am and I’m crying seeing that Adam Sandler put a Cameron Boyce cameo in Happy Gilmore 2.

The two actors first worked together in 2010’s Grown Ups, where Boyce played Keithie Feder, one of Sandler’s character Lenny’s sons. They returned to those roles in 2013’s Grown Ups 2. After Boyce passed away, Sandler paid tribute to him on social media.
Too young. Too sweet. Too funny. Just the nicest, most talented, and most decent kid around. Loved that kid. Cared so much about his family. Cared so much about the world. Thank you, Cameron, for all you gave to us. So much more was on the way. All our hearts are broken. Thinking of your amazing family and sending our deepest condolences.
He also honored Boyce in the credits of his 2020 film Hubie Halloween, as Boyce was originally set to appear in the movie before his death.
