As anticipation builds for the release of Stranger Things Season 5, creators Matt and Ross Duffer have confirmed that Joseph Quinn will not reprise his role as Eddie Munson despite fan speculation suggesting otherwise.
In a new interview with Empire, Matt Duffer put the rumors to rest.
I love that Joe Quinn is toying with people! But no, he’s dead. Joe is so busy anyway, that everyone should know he’s not coming back. He’s shot like five movies since! When the hell has he got time to come and shoot Stranger Things? No, sadly, RIP. He’s fully under that ground.
he said.
Quinn, who became a breakout star in Season 4 as the heavy-metal-loving leader of the Hellfire Club, quickly rose to fame following his time on the Netflix hit. Since then, he has landed major roles in projects such as The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Sam Mendes’ upcoming quartet of Beatles films.
In Season 4, Eddie played a pivotal role by luring Vecna’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) Demobats away while the rest of the Hawkins crew attacked the Upside Down’s Creel House stronghold. His sacrifice ultimately cost him his life a death that, according to the Duffer Brothers, is permanent. Though, as fans may recall, Dacre Montgomery’s Billy briefly returned in ghost form during the previous season, fueling speculation that Eddie might appear again.
The Duffers also shared new details about a fresh addition to the cast: Terminator icon Linda Hamilton will appear as Dr. Kay, a government agent tracking down Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).
She’s hyper-intelligent and intimidating. She’s a scientist but if she needs to, she can get into a fight and shoot a gun.
Matt Duffer said.
Volume 1 of the three-part final season of Stranger Things premieres on November 26. Earlier this year, Ross Duffer teased that the concluding chapter will serve as a “cinematic farewell” for the beloved series.
Alongside Brown, Hamilton, and Bower, the returning cast includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Cara Buono, Amybeth McNulty, Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, and Alex Breaux.
