With Stranger Things Season 5 nearing release, creators Matt and Ross Duffer say the final showdown will rival the cinematic scale of Game of Thrones’ “Battle of the Bastards.”
Speaking to Empire, the duo said they are holding nothing back as the Netflix hit enters its final arc.
Now we’re in the final season, we don’t have to hold anything back. We didn’t want to tie everything into a perfect bow, but I think we answer most questions and resolve every arc.
they said.
Set 18 months after Season 4, the new season reunites Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink and others as Hawkins prepares for its decisive battle against Vecna.
The creators compared the scale to Game of Thrones:
It was our intention to write a definitive ending to this story. When we pitched it to Netflix, we genuinely thought the scale was going to be about on par with Season 4. But, uh… that turned out to be a lie.
Matt Duffer added.
He teased that massive sequences in Episodes 4 and 8 will “evoke the same feeling” as Battle of the Bastards, calling Episode 4 titled “Sorcerer” “the most logistically insane shoot of our lives.”
Season 5 will be released in three parts: Part 1 on Thanksgiving, Part 2 on Christmas, and the finale on December 31.
