Stephen King criticized “self-righteous book banners” who removed his books from their stores after his remarks about Charlie Kirk’s death. The 78-year-old horror writer seems more focused on posting political opinions on X than writing new stories.

In recent weeks, Stephen has commented on several issues, including the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live, free speech, and the killing of the conservative activist. His “abhorrent” comments about Charlie caused the biggest backlash, leading an Irish bookstore to pull all of his books. King has now spoken about how his politics are affecting his sales.
I am now the most banned author in the United States–87 books. May I suggest you pick up one of them and see what all the pissing & moaning is about? Self-righteous book banners don’t always get to have their way. This is still America, dammit. When the activist’s assassination happened, he posted, The motivation of the man who shot Charlie Kirk isn’t clear (although he’s probably mentally unstable–duh). Eventually, the author took back his words and posted, I apologize for saying Charlie Kirk advocated stoning gays. What he actually demonstrated was how some people cherry-pick Biblical passages. You are a horrible, evil, twisted liar. No, he did not. Your party—which you shamelessly shilled for—sent $100 billion to the Ayatollah… who does routinely murder homosexuals. Why are you so dishonest & filled with hate? The horrible, evil, twisted liar apologizes. This is what I get for reading something on Twitter without fact-checking. It won’t happen again.
Some of his followers were shocked, with one saying, When Stephen tried to promote his new movie, The Long Walk, another replied, The apology brought more criticism, with Republican senator Ted Cruz saying, Stephen replied
