A free streaming service is about to offer the perfect double feature for Stephen King fans. The original Carrie movie and its 2013 remake will be added to Tubi at the start of next month.
Starting Nov. 1, Tubi will include the Carrie movies in its film library, giving viewers two versions of one of King’s most praised stories. Often called one of the best horror films ever made, the 1976 movie based on King’s first novel was directed by Brian De Palma with a screenplay by Lawrence D. Cohen. Sissy Spacek played the main character, Carrie White, while Piper Laurie played her abusive mother, Margaret White. Both of their roles were highly praised, earning nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress at the 49th Academy Awards.

37 years later, Carrie was made again starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore as Carrie and Margaret White. Kimberly Peirce directed the 2013 version, mainly written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, though Cohen returned to help with rewrites. While both films did well at the box office, only the original was praised by critics, with the remake often seen as an example of a remake that was not needed.
Both movies follow Carrie White, a quiet girl rejected by her classmates and controlled by her very religious mother, who uses her telekinetic powers with tragic results after being the target of a mean prank at her senior prom. There have been two other Carrie versions: The Rage: Carrie 2, a sequel to the original movie, and a 2002 TV movie based on King’s novel. Like the 2013 remake, critics did not like them. Since none of the later Carrie projects impressed critics like the original, Mike Flanagan will face a big challenge.
Bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public High School, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.

If anyone can create another well-reviewed Carrie version, it is Flanagan, who has already adapted three of King’s stories for film — Gerald’s Game (2017), Doctor Sleep (2019), and The Life of Chuck (2025). All were praised by critics. Summer H. Howell has been chosen to play Carrie in Flanagan’s version, with Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Joel Oulette, Matthew Lillard, and Samantha Sloyan also in the cast.
The 1976 and 2013 Carrie movies arrive on Tubi on Nov. 1.
