Robert Eggers and Willem Dafoe may be teaming up again, as the Oscar-nominated actor is in talks to star alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Eggers’ next film Werwulf at Focus Features. Lily-Rose Depp is also in discussions to join the cast. Eggers will direct and co-write the script with Sjón, his writing partner from The Northman.
Werwulf is set for release in North America on Christmas Day 2026.
Focus is producing and funding the film. Eggers and Sjón will also produce alongside Focus, with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner from Working Title. Chris and Eleanor Columbus of Maiden Voyage will executive produce. While the plot remains secret, the title suggests the story will involve the legendary creature.
Dafoe has become a frequent collaborator of Eggers, appearing in his last three movies: The Lighthouse, The Northman, and Nosferatu. The two are also planning a new version of A Christmas Carol at Warner Bros., with Eggers directing and Dafoe in early talks to star.

Dafoe was last seen in A24’s The Legend of Ochi and is currently shooting Apple Original Films’ Tenzing. His upcoming films include The Man In The Basement and The Birthday Party.
Dafoe is represented by WME and Circle Management + Production.
