Jerry Bruckheimer isn’t sure yet if Johnny Depp will return for Pirates of the Caribbean 6, but he did confirm that another big star is part of the franchise. Bruckheimer told TheWrap that Margot Robbie is still involved in a Pirates movie. Earlier reports said Robbie was leading a female-focused project that got canceled.
But Bruckheimer said that isn’t true: “She’s still involved.” He didn’t say if Robbie will have her own movie or if she will appear in the sequel.
We had two scripts at one point, and then one kind of dropped out and we kind of went with the other one.
But he explained
Bruckheimer also made it clear the sequel won’t move forward unless the script is good.
If we don’t have it on the page, it’s not gonna get on the screen.
He said
He also revealed that longtime Pirates writer Ted Elliot worked partly on the script, and now someone else is finishing it. Fans will need to wait until the script is done for more updates. Bruckheimer has always backed Johnny Depp despite the accusations and pushed for his return.

He said he would like Depp back in a future Pirates movie. In a recent talk with EW, Bruckheimer gave a hopeful update about Depp’s comeback. He said he had spoken to Depp about it.
If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it. It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know. Bruckheimer had already shown support in 2022, telling THR that he would love to have him in the [sixth] movie. He also praised Depp as a great actor and said it was unfortunate that personal lives creep into everything we do.
He explained
He again spoke about wanting Depp back during an ET interview in March 2023.
If it was up to me, of course. I love having Depp. He’s a great actor and good friend… I’ve certainly spoken to him, but we’ll see what happens.
He said
Disney’s treatment of Depp during the Depp v. Heard trial in 2022 was a big talking point. The studio’s name came up when Depp said he had no plans to work with Disney again. He claimed Disney dropped him from Pirates before the trial’s verdict.
Keira Knightley, who played Elizabeth Swan, was asked recently if she would return. She told ET that “there haven’t been any conversations” with the Pirates team. She admitted she didn’t really remember what happened to her character, adding:
It was a very long time ago. And I don’t remember what happened to her. So, I’m not quite sure where she should go afterwards. She should be a pirate, right? Orlando Bloom has said he supports Depp and wants the old cast back for Pirates 6. At Fan Expo Chicago, he said I would personally love to see everybody back (in Pirates). I think the way to win on that one is to get everybody back.
If they can, and if everybody wanted to go back. After directing Modì, Depp is now working with Pirates co-star Penelope Cruz again in the movie Day Drinker. He is also filming Carnival: At the End of Days with Adam Driver, Jeff Bridges, and Jason Momoa.
