Pedro Pascal is encouraging fans to watch the new hit horror movie he left before filming. Directed by Zach Cregger, Weapons is about the strange disappearance of 17 children who all got out of bed one night and left their homes at the same time. The film hit theaters on August 8 and stars Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong, and Cary Christopher.
At the same time, Pascal appears in the latest MCU movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which has been in theaters since July 24. This new version of the Fantastic Four has earned $434 million worldwide so far on a reported $200 million budget. Pascal has also reportedly finished filming his scenes for Avengers: Doomsday.

Via his Instagram story, the Last of Us star urged fans to go see Weapons, a movie for which he was cast but was forced to drop out of. Pascal shared a snapshot of the movie’s poster and wrote
Pascal was originally part of Weapons’ cast, which also includes Brian Tyree Henry, Austin Abrams, and Renate Reinsve. He was set to play Josh Brolin’s character, Archer Graff, the father of one of the missing children. However, the Hollywood writers’ strikes delayed filming, creating a scheduling conflict for Pascal.
Cregger has said that although he had to “recast the entire movie,” he holds no “ill will” toward anyone (via Variety). Weapons earned $42 million in its opening weekend and went viral on social media, showing major success and popularity for an original horror film.

Meanwhile, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, though passing $400 million worldwide, hasn’t quite reached the level of a major superhero blockbuster. Pascal’s next big-screen role will be in Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, where he plays the Mandalorian alongside Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt. Weapons could have been very different if the strikes hadn’t happened.
Despite delays and other challenges, Zach Cregger’s new horror has become a major hit, holding a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes with glowing reviews from critics and audiences.
Weapons was filmed from May to July 2024. First Steps began filming in 2024 and wrapped in early 2025, while The Last of Us season 2 was shot from February to August 2024, and Materialists from April to June.
During this time, Pascal was also busy promoting and attending events for Gladiator II, The Wild Robot, and Drive-Away Dolls. While it seems he missed out on one of the best horror movies in recent years with Weapons, it would have been impossible for him to fit it into his schedule.
