Peacock’s Love Island Games is about to kick off, and Mert Okatan is officially making his comeback to the franchise. This time around, the professional footballer is opening up about his mindset and goals as he reenters the villa.
The official X (formerly Twitter) account for Love Island USA posted Mert’s introduction video, where he gives fans a glimpse of who he is and what he’s bringing to the competition.

“I am now here, back to win the game again,” Mert declared confidently.
He began the video by saying, “I’m a good boy, you know. I don’t just sleep with any girl. You can bring me home to meet your mom.”
As for communication, Mert doesn’t see the language barrier as a problem when it comes to romance. “I love American woman. If I love a girl, you don’t need language, you know. Look each other in the eyes and then it just happens, you know what I mean?”
When it comes to strengths, Mert is clear about what sets him apart. “I’m a very competitive person. I hate to lose,” he explained. He rated his speed an “8 out of 10” and insisted his strength is “10/10.” Detailing his fitness routine, he added, “I actually go 4 or 5 times a week to the gym. After that, I eat my eggs. I never skip leg day.”
As for strategy, his approach is simple: “I’m a born winner, you know. I hate to lose, so I’m here to not lose—to win the game.”
Fans React
Viewers quickly shared their reactions on social media, showing both excitement and speculation about Mert’s return. One fan predicted, “He’s going to bag Andreina. Good luck Tyrique! Y’all don’t know how vile these Dutch men are.” Another wrote, “He’s giving innocence. Kaykay will not see this one now.” A third chimed in, “Y’all talking ’bout Andreina going with Tyrique (which she definitely still might lol), but something in me feels like she may go for him too like how she went for Pepe.”
Mert’s Love Island Journey So Far
Mert first competed in Love Island Netherlands & Belgium Season 2 in 2020, where he and his partner Joan Pronk won the competition, beating out 29 other islanders. That season ran from August 31, 2020, through October 11, 2020.
However, Mert and Joan ended their relationship in 2021. He later returned for Season 3 of the franchise, where he ultimately finished in third place.
Love Island Games Season 2 premieres September 16, 2025.
