Meghan Markle’s long-awaited return to acting has stirred up strong reactions — and not all of them are positive.
The 44-year-old former Suits star has stepped back into the spotlight with a small role in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios project Close Personal Friends, marking her first acting appearance in eight years. Filming took place in Pasadena, California, on Wednesday, November 5, where Markle was reportedly in high spirits.
A “Massive Moment” for Meghan
“Meghan was on the set today,” a source told reporters. “She seemed very relaxed and happy. She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth.”
Another insider described the moment as significant for Markle, calling it a “massive moment” in her career comeback. “It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set,” the source added. “Everyone involved is super-excited, and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement.”
The film also stars Jack Quaid, Brie Larson, and Lily Collins, adding to the buzz surrounding Markle’s Hollywood return.
Fans Divided Over Her Performance
While some fans celebrated her comeback, others were less than impressed, taking to social media to criticize her acting skills.
“Sadly, her face shows NO emotion just like every time we get her crammed into every single social media [post]. The only emotion she portrays is ‘Look at how beautiful I am,’” one critic wrote. Another added, “She couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag.”
A third user echoed the sentiment, writing, “Title or no title, the woman is a mediocre actress at best.”
Despite the mixed reactions, Markle’s return marks her first on-screen performance since stepping away from acting following her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018. Whether Close Personal Friends signals a full-fledged Hollywood comeback remains to be seen.
