Married At First Sight UK viewers have expressed outrage after bride Sarah made a remark about her new husband Dean that many branded “fat shaming.”
The tenth series of the E4 reality show returned with drama in full force, and Monday night’s (September 29) episode saw tensions rise during the couples’ first dinner party of the season. While some pairs appeared to be thriving, others – including Dean and Sarah – showed clear signs of strain.

During the gathering, Dean, 31, performed one of his original raps for the group, declaring: “Here we are on this mad experiment, seeing things not in our element.” His passion for music has already been a source of friction, with Sarah previously admitting during their honeymoon: “The outburst of song and rapping is beginning to grate on me.”
At the dinner table, Sarah’s disapproval was plain to see, and in conversation with Maeve she made a comment that quickly sparked outrage. “He asked me if I ever slept with anyone fat before,” she said, before adding: “He’s calling himself the funny fat kid, he’s like a care bear.”

Relationship experts Paul Brunson, Mel Schilling, and Charlene Douglas were shown observing the exchange, with Schilling quick to criticise Sarah’s remarks: “That’s not a very hot thing to say about your partner.”
The comments triggered a wave of reaction online. One viewer wrote: “Shame on everyone at that table for not pulling Sarah up on the honesty box! Dean should know what she’s going around saying about him and the ‘relationship’.” Another posted: “I really DO NOT like Sarah. Disrespectful, rude and my god I could go on. The way you are talking about him behind his back is disgusting.”
Not all viewers condemned Sarah, however. Some sympathised with her, with one remarking: “Although some of the comments are out of order, I can’t completely disagree with Sarah? She just has the ick and everyone knows it impossible to shake.” Another added: “I understand Sarah because I’ve been in the same situation where someone however he was very nice but he would have give me ick any moment. The difference is I wasn’t quite bitchy and bully and also not on the national tv marrying a stranger. #mafs.”
Married At First Sight UK continues Sunday to Thursday on E4 at 9pm.
