Lamar Odom and Khloé Kardashian are revisiting their deeply complicated relationship in the Netflix documentary Untold: The Death and Life of Lamar Odom, opening up about infidelity, addiction, emotional turmoil and the life-threatening overdose that nearly killed the former NBA star.
The couple, married from 2009 to 2016, both appear in the film reflecting on their past. Odom, now 46, says he remains “grateful” for their marriage, but acknowledges change: “People and places in your life change.”
“These days, I’m just working on being my best self, and being present every day,” he adds.
He also recounts the severity of his 2015 overdose: “I had 12 strokes and six heart attacks… I was dead for three days. I made it, though.”
Motive Behind the Marriage
The documentary explores Odom’s mindset entering the marriage. His childhood friend Anthony “Pumpkin” Booker claims Odom saw the relationship as a way to elevate his future due to the Kardashian family’s influence.
According to Booker, Odom believed the Kardashians “know people” and “have mad connections.”
Odom himself recalls being drawn to their lifestyle: “I’m watching how she lives and their lifestyle. I’m like, ‘This is how I want to live.’”
His daughter Destiny, 28, adds perspective, saying, “He did love Khloe… but, he had wanted to be on reality TV for a long time.”
Infidelity and Chaotic Behavior
Both Odom and Kardashian revisit his cheating during their marriage.
“What the f–k would make you think you marry this woman on TV and then go have affairs?” Odom says in the documentary, criticizing his own past actions.
He recalls one night when he was “high out of my f–king mind,” and the woman he was cheating with took his phone and contacted Kardashian.
Khloé remembers receiving that call: “I’ve been f–ing your husband.”
The woman, alarmed by Odom’s drug use, reportedly told her, “‘I’ve got to get off this ride, can you pick him up?’”
Khloé Kardashian Says She Was an “Enabler”
Kardashian reflects on how she supported Odom through his addiction, even when it meant covering for him.
“I was looking for him in alleys, looking for him in motels,” she says.
She also cleaned hotel rooms of drug paraphernalia—like spoons and tinfoil—to prevent stories leaking to the press.
“I was such an enabler without knowing I was an enabler,” she admits, explaining she felt responsible for protecting him.
Emotional Toll and Sleepless Nights
Kardashian opens up about the emotional damage she endured during the relationship.
“I remember just keeping all these secrets, and feeling horrible about myself,” she says.
She explains she was only 24 at the time and still figuring out her life. Odom’s past trauma—his father’s addiction and losing a child to SIDS—made her rationalize his behavior and try to “fix” him.
“I didn’t sleep for years,” she adds.
Drug Use Escalation After NBA Trade
The documentary details how Odom’s drug use worsened after his 2011 trade from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks.
Khloé describes that period as having a “dark aura,” recalling he once stayed locked in a hotel bathroom for “maybe four days” using drugs.
After being traded to the LA Clippers in 2012, his behavior continued.
“He overdosed a few times, I had to pump his stomach,” she says.
Divorce Ultimatum
In July 2015, Kardashian filed for divorce as part of an intervention strategy.
She told Odom he needed rehab or the marriage would end. According to her, he responded, “All I want is my passport and yeah, let’s get the f–ing divorce.”
Despite filing, she later admitted: “I don’t want the divorce,” suggesting she felt pressured into making the decision.
Premonition Before the Overdose
The night before Odom’s overdose at the Love Ranch brothel in Nevada, Kardashian says she had a disturbing dream.
“I had a dream about Lamar that he was dead,” she recalls.
The next day, after a photo shoot, she saw multiple missed calls from her sister Kim and learned the news.
“I get in the car… I just remember screaming,” she says.
Hospital Battle and Life Support Dispute
After the overdose, Odom was hospitalized, placed on life support and eventually fell into a coma.
Kardashian alleges his father Joe suggested removing life support.
“I’m still his wife. What do you need?” she recalls telling him.
She claims Joe asked her for Nike shoes, $100 and a hotel room, then left and “never came back.”
At the time, Kardashian paused their divorce proceedings to support Odom during recovery.
Kobe Bryant’s Crucial Role
Odom’s former teammate Kobe Bryant visited him during his hospitalization and played a key role in a critical medical decision.
Doctors warned that a risky surgery might save him—or kill him.
“Kobe Bryant was there. And he helped me make the decision,” Kardashian says.
The surgery succeeded in restoring his lung function, though he later slipped into a coma.
Chaos Inside the Hospital
Kardashian describes troubling incidents during Odom’s hospital stay, including discovering that visitors included drug dealers trying to collect money and search through his belongings.
She responded by placing the visitor list “on lockdown,” requiring her approval for anyone to enter.
Final Breaking Point
After Odom was discharged, Kardashian arranged a home with a caretaker and chef to help him recover.
However, she says she found him relapsing again, sitting on a bed “smoking crack.”
“I just punched him in his face,” she recalls.
Feeling betrayed, she confronted him: “I just put my life on hold to f–king take care of you.”
She then told him to leave within days, adding, “I’m done, I’m not paying for a thing and I never want to speak to you again.”
The documentary Untold: The Death and Life of Lamar Odom is now streaming on Netflix, offering a raw and unfiltered look at the highs, devastation and lasting consequences of Odom and Kardashian’s relationship.
