Kristen Bell reveals that production on Frozen 3 will begin soon and shares that she’s already read the script.
Actress Kristen Bell has announced that production on Frozen 3 — the much-anticipated third chapter in Disney’s hit animated franchise — will begin “soon.” Bell, who voices Princess Anna, shared the news during an interview at the Season 2 premiere of Nobody Wants This at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
Speaking with Variety, Bell revealed that although she hasn’t yet heard any of the new songs for the sequel, she has already read the script. “That’s all I can say. I’m under lock and key,” she said, referencing Disney’s strict creative secrecy. She added that the studio’s development process begins with broad concepts:
Here’s where we think it should go. The great thing about Disney is it goes through a thousand filters. Everyone adds something different, and that’s why the movies hit every mark.
Frozen 3 is expected to hit theaters in 2027. In August 2024, Disney shared early concept art featuring Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) riding a white horse and Anna on a brown stag. The film will once again be directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, the duo behind the first two installments.
The original Frozen debuted in 2013 and became a global sensation, earning two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature. Its follow-up, Frozen II (2019), continued the story of sisters Anna and Elsa in the kingdom of Arendelle, alongside returning cast members Jonathan Groff (Kristoff) and Josh Gad (Olaf).
At the same event, Bell also spoke about her Netflix series Nobody Wants This, which returns for its second season on October 23. While her husband, Dax Shepard, won’t be appearing in the show, Bell shared that he’s happy focusing on his podcast, Armchair Expert.
