Kim Kardashian has made a rare public comment about Taylor Swift, nearly two years after speculation swirled that Swift’s song “thanK you aIMee” was a thinly veiled diss aimed at her.
The remark came during a recent episode of Khloé in Wonder Land, when Kardashian was asked by her sister Khloé Kardashian about her music tastes.
“Do you think people would be surprised you listen to Taylor Swift?” Khloé asked. Kardashian responded simply, “I think I’ve said it.”
She continued, “Yeah, I mean, it’s just — I have some of her older songs in my playlist. I’ve always thought she’s like a super talented great artist.”
Representatives for Swift did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment.
The comments arrive years after Kardashian was drawn into Swift’s highly publicized feud with Kanye West, now known as Ye. The controversy stemmed from West’s 2016 song “Famous,” in which he rapped the line, “I made that bitch famous.” Swift later said she had not been properly informed about the lyric, while West claimed she had approved it during a phone call.
At the time, Kardashian — who was married to West — shared a portion of that call on Snapchat, which appeared to undermine Swift’s account. Swift later addressed the fallout on her 2017 album Reputation and revisited similar themes on The Tortured Poets Department.
One track in particular, “thanK you aIMee,” drew widespread attention due to the capitalized letters in the title spelling out “Kim.” The song describes a hometown bully who caused lasting harm but ultimately contributed to the narrator’s strength.
“I wrote a thousand songs that you find uncool / I built a legacy that you can’t undo,” Swift sings. “But when I count the scars, there’s a moment of truth / That there wouldn’t be this if there hadn’t been you.”
The track also references a moment where “your kid comes home singing / a song that only us two is gonna know is about you.”
Despite past tensions, Kardashian has previously acknowledged enjoying Swift’s music. She and her daughter North West have shared videos on social media of themselves singing and dancing to Swift’s songs.
After the track’s release, a source told People that Kardashian was “over” the long-running drama and “thinks that Taylor should move on,” adding that she “doesn’t get why [Swift] keeps harping on it.”
In 2020, a longer version of Swift and West’s phone call was leaked. Swift responded at the time by writing on Instagram that it proved she had been “telling the truth the whole time” and accused “somebody” of having “edited and manipulated [it] in order to frame me and put me, my family, and fans through hell for 4 years.”
Swift may have continued to reflect on the public reaction to the feud on another TTPD track, “Cassandra,” which many listeners interpret as another symbolic reference to Kardashian. The song draws on Greek mythology and imagery of snakes — an image long associated with the feud after Kardashian posted about National Snake Day in 2016.
