Kevin Spacey has revealed he is currently homeless and living between temporary accommodations, seven years after a sexual assault scandal derailed his career. In a new interview with the Telegraph published Wednesday, the Oscar-winning actor said he has been staying in hotels and Airbnbs while struggling financially.
“I’m living in hotels, I’m living in Airbnbs, I’m going where the work is,” Spacey said, explaining that he no longer has a permanent residence. “I literally have no home, that’s what I’m attempting to explain.”
The 66-year-old shared that his financial situation is “not great” and that although things never reached the point of bankruptcy, “the costs over these last seven years have been astronomical.” Spacey said, “I’ve had very little coming in and everything going out.”
Spacey — who has consistently denied wrongdoing was acquitted in July 2023 of sexual assault accusations brought by four men in the U.K., and was found not liable in a 2022 lawsuit in New York. The allegations, which began surfacing in 2017, included claims from more than 30 men, among them “Star Trek: Discovery” actor Anthony Rapp.
Following the scandal, Netflix removed Spacey from the hit series “House of Cards,” which concluded in 2018 with Robin Wright taking over the lead role.
Reflecting on the fallout, the actor said, “In weird ways, I feel I’m back to where I first started, which is I just went where the work was.”
Spacey noted that his belongings remain “in storage,” adding, “I hope at some point, if things continue to improve, that I’ll be able to decide where I want to settle down again.”
He recently performed at a resort in Limassol, Cyprus, as part of his efforts to rebuild his career. In May 2024, amid the release of the documentary “Spacey Unmasked,” he again rejected accusations, saying he could no longer “allow [himself] to be baselessly attacked” without defending himself.
“I take full responsibility for my past behavior and my actions, but I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologize to anyone who’s made up stuff about me or exaggerated stories about me,” he told former U.K. journalist Dan Wootton.
“I’ve never told someone that if they give me sexual favors, then I will help them out with their career, never,” he said.
Earlier in May, Spacey received a lifetime achievement award at an event in Cannes, calling the past several years “challenging.”
