Jonathan Ross has confessed that he “didn’t enjoy” his experience filming The Celebrity Traitors, despite appearing to relish his role early in the show.
The 64-year-old talk show host was selected to be one of the Traitors in the first celebrity edition of the hit BBC competition series. However, speaking on his weekly podcast Reel Talk, Ross revealed that the constant deception required for the role took a toll on him.

When asked whether he enjoyed taking part in the show, Ross replied candidly,
(No). I’m a Traitor, that’s why. I found the lying really wearing, it left me feeling increasingly uncomfortable.
He elaborated that the need to maintain secrecy extended beyond filming, even during casual moments with fellow contestants.
We were lying all the time, because you’re sharing a car in with people in the morning, and even though we’re not supposed to be talking about the game but obviously some people do, so you’re lying then.

Ross was one of 19 celebrities who travelled to the Scottish Highlands earlier this year to film the series. Among his co-stars were Clare Balding, Tom Daley, and Stephen Fry. Singer Paloma Faith was the first Faithful to be “murdered” by the Traitors a task carried out by Alan Carr in full view of the others.
Reflecting on the experience, Ross admitted that the deception and pressure made the production “uncomfortable” and that he has since warned other celebrities against joining the show.
I know they’re already planning a second celebrity version. I know because I’ve had two celebrity friends of mine call me and say, ‘I’ve been approached – is it good to do, is it bad to do?’ So I’m giving them the benefit of my experience, which was I didn’t enjoy it.
Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, The Celebrity Traitors continues on BBC.
