Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye might not be hanging up his bow just yet. The Marvel veteran, who last appeared in Disney+’s Hawkeye series, has hinted that his retirement from superhero life may be short-lived as he gears up for Avengers: Doomsday.
In a recent chat with ComicBook, Renner revealed that Clint Barton’s days of rest never last long:
I think he started retired… but he’s always pulled out of retirement, you know. I think he’s a family man; you always know where his allegiance lies, and he’s always come out of retirement, man. Until he’s killed, he’s always gonna be working.
The comment reinforces what fans already know about Hawkeye — that family comes first, but duty always calls. In Captain America: Civil War, Barton returned from retirement to aid Natasha Romanoff and Steve Rogers, later transforming into Ronin during Infinity War.
With Avengers: Doomsday expected to unite the Avengers and X-Men under the Russo brothers, Renner could once again be drawn back into action alongside Anthony Mackie’s new Captain America when Doctor Doom emerges as the next major threat.
The star-studded ensemble includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Joseph Quinn, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, and more. Avengers: Doomsday is slated for a December 2026 release.
Meanwhile, Renner will appear in Mayor of Kingstown beginning October 26.
