Imax CEO Rich Gelfond said the big-screen chain will show Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein for a short run at a few locations.
He didn’t give an exact count, but Deadline reports it will be a very small rollout of about 10 screenings.
It really is a theatrical movie. You know, Frankenstein and Imax is great synergy. He’s big. Imax is big, loud. He added it will debut on Imax in a couple of weeks.
Gelfond said at the Axios Media Live conference in New York, he joked
The new version of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, starring Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac, premiered at Venice last month, see Deadline review. Netflix plans a limited theater release on October 17, with streaming starting November 7.

The giant streamer, which recently scored a big box-office hit with KPop Demons Hunters, usually avoids theaters, frustrating theater owners.

In a major deal, its adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ Narnia by Greta Gerwig will have an exclusive two-week Imax global run in fall 2026, across 90 countries and 1,000 auditoriums, before the movie streams.
