After returning to theaters this past summer, the slasher franchise I Know What You Did Last Summer is now set for its streaming debut. Netflix has confirmed the film will be available in the United States beginning October 16, 2025, arriving a full month earlier than expected and just in time for Halloween.
A Legacy Sequel with Familiar Faces
Released in July 2025, the film served as both a reboot and legacy sequel to the original 1997 hit. It followed a new group of friends whose lives spiral after a tragic accident, placing them in the crosshairs of a mysterious, hook-wielding killer.
The movie also tied directly to the original films, bringing back Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. as Julie James and Ray Bronson. The fresh ensemble cast included Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline, alongside Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, and Sarah Pidgeon. Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the project leaned heavily into the late ’90s slasher aesthetic while layering in a modern edge.
Box Office and Reception
With a production budget of about $17 million, the film grossed over $64 million worldwide. Critics were less enthusiastic, however. On Rotten Tomatoes, it earned a 38% critics’ score, with consensus pointing to overreliance on nostalgia. Audience response was notably more favorable, with a 69% score, praising the cast chemistry, shocking twists, and overall faithfulness to the franchise’s roots.
Netflix Deal Brings Early Arrival
Under Sony Pictures’ first-window deal with Netflix, most theatrical titles typically arrive on the streamer about 120 days post-release placing this one on November 16, 2025. Instead, the platform secured rights an entire month earlier.
As it stands, I Know What You Did Last Summer will stream on Netflix U.S. from October 16, 2025, remaining for 18 months before shifting to Hulu/Disney+ in 2027.
