Firefly actress and Hollywood star Morena Baccarin says a part of her “would be so excited” to return to Firefly in a new follow-up series.
There’s always talk. There’s always people asking about it. I’ll put it this way. Like, is there going to be a ‘Firefly’ reboot with all of us in it? Live action? I seriously doubt it. You know, that’s a lot of different careers and different people that you have to negotiate with and make work and all that, you know? Schedules and whatnot. Could there be like a comic book, a thing or what? Maybe. I don’t know. Part of me would be excited to revisit that world, and part of me is also a little bit like, I love it so much where it is that I’m worried about reopening that door, you know?
Per Bleeding Cool, Baccarin responded to the question whether a Firefly/Serenity reunion series might come into form some time in the near future, saying, then Baccarin continued
Baccarin played Inara Serra in Firefly during the show’s only season and returned to the role in the 2005 movie Serenity. Set in a dystopian 26th Century, Firefly and Serenity follow the misfit crew of the Firefly-class ship, the Serenity, led by former Independent sergeant and rebel fighter Malcolm Reynolds, played by Nathan Fillion.

The show’s and film’s star-studded cast also included Gina Torres as Zoe Alleyne Washburne, Alan Tudyk as Hoban “Wash” Washburne, Adam Baldwin as Jayne Cobb, Ron Glass as Derrial Book, Jewel Staite as Kaywinnet Lee “Keylee” Frye, and Sean Maher and Summer Glau as Simon and River Tam. The much-loved show has a nearly perfect 96% “Popcornmeter” score on the review site Rotten Tomatoes and has become a lasting part of modern sci-fi culture.
It was confirmed that Tudyk and Fillion will start their own podcast, Once, We Were Spacemen, which is expected to include appearances from several other Firefly cast members.
We wanted to, you know, break some ground where we talk to our favorite, uh, sci-fi actors and other actors. People who were on Firefly, people who were not on Firefly, and sometimes we just talk to each other.
Tudyk said of the series following its announcement.
