By the power of Grayskull, Dolph Lundgren may be heading back to Eternia. The actor, who famously portrayed He-Man in the 1987 Masters of the Universe film, hinted that he could be appearing in the upcoming 2026 reboot.
During a recent interview with Extra, Lundgren played coy when host Derek Hough asked if he would return for the new movie, which stars Nicholas Galitzine in the lead role. “Maybe, yeah, you’ll have to check it out when it comes out,” he said.
In the 1987 film, Lundgren played He-Man, the alter ego of Prince Adam of Eternia. Years later, in a 2012 interview with IGN, he expressed interest in returning to the franchise — this time as He-Man’s father, King Randor. “I wouldn’t wanna take my shirt off again for three months and wear that diaper or whatever it was I was wearing, loincloth,” he joked. “So I’d rather play the king.”
Although Lundgren’s involvement remains unconfirmed, James Purefoy has officially been cast as King Randor in the upcoming movie.
The Masters of the Universe reboot, produced by Mattel Films, is slated to hit theaters next summer. Nicholas Galitzine shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse on Instagram in June, posting, “Well, that’s a wrap on Masters of the Universe. It has been an honour shouldering the responsibility of playing Adam and He Man. It’s been the role of a lifetime and I put everything into it.”
Not many plot details have been revealed, but Mattel executive PJ Lewis previously told Entertainment Weekly that visiting the set left a lasting impression. “The moment that stands out was seeing the Power Sword for the first time, but also being in some of the sets and seeing the visual nature from the set design — we built an incredible world, and it’s gonna be really exciting for us to bring to our fans,” Lewis said.
Lundgren, now 67, has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years, appearing in several high-profile projects and sharing earlier this year that he is now cancer-free. With his latest comments, fans are hopeful they’ll see the original He-Man make a return to the franchise that made him a pop culture icon.
