Doctor Who actor Nicholas Briggs has been confirmed to take on the role of Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock Holmes Untold, an upcoming eight-part audio series.
The drama will follow six cases from the detective’s career, each inspired by references in Arthur Conan Doyle’s original stories. Briggs, best known for voicing the Daleks and Cybermen in Doctor Who, will lead the series alongside fellow Doctor Who voice actor Richard Earl, who stars as Dr John Watson.
Set to launch on 1 October 2025, episodes will be released weekly, with each 30-minute instalment promising “a cracking cast, confounding crimes and a captivating cliffhanger.” Fans can pre-order the full boxset for £24.99 exclusively from Big Finish, with the complete series available to download once all episodes air.
Fans of the Sherlock Holmes stories will know that Conan Doyle absolutely sprinkles them with all of these little mentions of unchronicled cases. Sometimes stories that were incomplete or unsatisfying, sometimes stories too scandalous to be told. This whole series is about building and extrapolating from the hints that Doyle left behind, almost like breadcrumbs for us to follow.

The cast also features Timothy Bentinck as Mycroft Holmes, John Banks as Colonel Sebastian Moran and Inspector Lestrade, Harriet Kershaw as Esmerelda North, Aurora Dawson-Hunte as Gabrielle Phillimore and Emily, and Christopher Naylor as Prime Minister Jasper Cranfield.
