Daniel Stern, best known for his role in the Home Alone films, will no longer appear in an upcoming ABC television series following a recent arrest on a criminal charge.
According to Deadline, producers of the new comedy series Do You Want Kids? have decided to recast the role Stern was set to play after he was charged with soliciting a prostitute. Stern had signed on to the project in December and was expected to be a series regular.
Stern was cast as Freddy, the gruff patriarch of the central family in the show. The series was created by Rachel Bloom, who is also set to star alongside Rory Scovel.
The incident leading to the charge reportedly occurred on December 10 at a hotel in Camarillo, California. Stern was initially cited in connection with the matter, but the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office later formally charged him after reviewing the case.
The 68-year-old actor was scheduled to be arraigned earlier this week; however, according to TMZ, the hearing has been continued until February 6.
Stern is widely recognized for portraying Marv, one half of the Wet Bandits, in the first two Home Alone films. His film credits also include City Slickers and Rookie of the Year. In addition, he served as the narrator and adult voice of Kevin Arnold on the long-running television series The Wonder Years.
