Catherine Zeta-Jones has a dream casting idea for Netflix’s Wednesday her husband Michael Douglas’ longtime friend, Danny DeVito.
Speaking at the Wednesday FYC event at the Netflix Tudum Theater in Hollywood, Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia Addams, told Variety: “I don’t know how Danny DeVito hasn’t been cast already. I was with him for our birthday in September and I was like, ‘Why isn’t Danny DeVito in Wednesday?’”
She laughed as she imagined him taking on the Addams Family’s most mysterious relative: “Imagine Danny DeVito as Cousin It? That’d be so cool.”
The Oscar winner added with a grin, “He’s gonna kill me for that. He’s like, ‘Yeah, they’re going to cast me and put hair all over my face. Thanks for suggesting that, Catherine.’”
Zeta-Jones also recalled her reaction to learning Lady Gaga would guest star in Season 2, saying, “It was top secret. I don’t tell Michael. I don’t tell my kids… I had to deal with the fact that when it did get released, my family looked at me and were like, ‘I can’t believe you, that we’re the last people to know about Gaga.’”
The actress gushed about working with the pop icon: “I was like a 17-year-old groupie when I saw Gaga. I truly believe that she is a generational talent. I am so happy that I got to meet her and I’d love to work with her more on something else.”
Production for Wednesday Season 3 is set to begin next year. Zeta-Jones hasn’t seen the new scripts yet but hopes for more scenes exploring Morticia’s relationship with her mother, played by Joanna Lumley.
“I hope that Wednesday snaps out of it next season,” she said. “It’s like enough already. She can’t demonize her mother anymore.”
