Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz’s wedding DJ has shared new insight into the now-infamous dance between Brooklyn and his mother Victoria Beckham, describing the moment as uncomfortable and emotionally charged for everyone involved.
DJ Fat Tony, who provided music throughout the couple’s three-day wedding celebration in April 2022, addressed the situation during an appearance on ITV’s This Morning on Friday, January 23. His comments come after Brooklyn, 26, alleged in a viral Instagram post that his mother “hijacked” his first dance with Nicola and behaved “very inappropriately,” leaving his bride in tears.
Tony said he decided to speak publicly after being “inundated” with questions following Brooklyn’s social media posts.
“It was a three-day wedding,” Tony recalled. “I did the welcome party, then I did the wedding and a brunch on the Sunday, which was the most awkward part of it all because everything that had gone on on the actual wedding night was discussed among the guests the next morning.”
According to the DJ, the awkwardness stemmed less from the dance itself and more from the timing. He explained that singer Marc Anthony, a longtime friend of the Beckham family, was performing when he unexpectedly called Victoria onto the stage instead of Nicola.
“There was no slut dropping, there was no black PVC catsuits, there was no Spice Girl action,” Tony said. “…The word inappropriate, why I said it was inappropriate as well … it was the timing.”
He continued: “Basically, Marc Anthony was performing on stage, he then called Brooklyn on to stage. Brooklyn went onto the stage and everyone was expecting it to be Nicola to go up and do the first dance. Marc Anthony asked ‘the most beautifulest woman in the room’ to come to the stage and he says, ‘Victoria, come to the stage.’ ”
Tony said Brooklyn appeared devastated in the moment, believing he was about to share his planned first dance with his wife, while Nicola left the room in tears.
“Brooklyn’s stuck there on stage and then they do this dance and Marc Anthony’s like going, ‘Put your hands on your mother’s hips,’ and it’s Latin, it was a Latin thing. The whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room,” Tony said.
While Tony noted that the Beckhams are a “very dancey, close-knit family,” he emphasized that the situation should be viewed through Brooklyn’s perspective.
“This is all about how Brooklyn feels. If he feels that it was inappropriate and awkward, it was inappropriate and awkward,” he said.
In his Instagram posts, Brooklyn described the incident in detail, writing: “My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song,” he wrote. “In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where the scheduled was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”
Brooklyn added that the incident played a role in the couple’s decision to renew their vows in August 2025. “We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment,” he wrote.
Tony suggested that Brooklyn’s decision to speak publicly came after years of feeling misunderstood.
“It’s taken a lot” for him to do so, Tony said, adding that Brooklyn has long been labeled a “nepo baby” and told “he should be grateful that he’s got the family name.”
Addressing why Brooklyn shared his feelings publicly rather than privately, Tony said: “He’s done all that. It got to the point for him where he couldn’t take this anymore and wanted to step back from it, and that was his way of doing closure.”
Tony expressed hope that the family will eventually reconcile but said emotions need time to settle.
“Do I think they’ll talk again? Of course, they will at some point. They are family. But the noise needs to die down, people need to step back from it. We live in a world where everyone is judge, jury, and executioner.”
A source previously told People that Brooklyn and Nicola are the only ones with access to footage of the dance and do not want it released publicly.
“It’s an extremely embarrassing moment for them and it would not be good for Brooklyn’s mental health to see this circulating online,” the source said. “It’s one of the most humiliating moments of his life and he doesn’t want it to be seen by the world.”
Representatives for Brooklyn Beckham, Nicola Peltz, Victoria Beckham, David Beckham, and Marc Anthony have not responded to requests for comment.
