The Monsterverse just got a major upgrade.
Australian star Alycia Debnam-Carey is the latest actor to join the cast of Legendary’s upcoming, still-untitled Monsterverse installment, Deadline has exclusively learned. While her character details are currently being kept under wraps, Debnam-Carey’s addition adds even more heat to an already star-packed ensemble.
This marks a reunion for Debnam-Carey and Kaitlyn Dever, who recently shared the screen in Netflix’s breakout drama Apple Cider Vinegar. The pair’s chemistry in that series earned widespread acclaim, making this team-up one fans won’t want to miss.
Debnam-Carey joins a cast that already includes Jack O’Connell, Matthew Modine, Delroy Lindo, and Dan Stevens, who will reprise his role as Trapper Beasley, the Titan-tending veterinarian from 2024’s box office smash Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. That film stands as the highest-grossing entry in the Monsterverse to date.
The new film will be directed by Grant Sputore (I Am Mother), working from a script by Shang-Chi writer Dave Callaham. Plot details remain closely guarded, but insiders hint at another epic clash involving Godzilla, Kong, and a new cataclysmic threat that could change the fate of the world.
Sputore takes over directing duties from Adam Wingard, who helmed both Godzilla vs. Kong and The New Empire.
Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise kicked off with 2014’s Godzilla, followed by Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and multiple spin-offs, including Netflix’s Skull Island and Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Combined, the franchise has pulled in more than $2.5 billion worldwide.
Debnam-Carey continues to build an impressive resume. She recently starred in It’s What’s Inside, the high-concept horror comedy acquired by Netflix in the biggest deal at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. She’s also known for her long-running role in AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead and past performances in The 100 and The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.
She is repped by UTA, Entertainment 360, United Management (Australia), and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
